The city of Istres, twice voted the best sports city in France, has more than 90 sports associations. As part of the city's Cultural Experimentation Center, 110 volunteer athletes, aged 7 to 77, professionals or amateurs, are invited to reveal the essence of their practice.
Each athlete is invited to create, from their own sports gestures, a micro-choreography. Each dance is then filmed and slowed down to the extreme. Through an immersion in suspended time, on the edge of immobility, the movement detaches itself from physical effort. The athletes float in space like distant stars. Their bodies freed from gravity turn away from any performative will.
Erased Effort offers an ethereal vision of movement and invites an ecstatic contemplation of the present moment. A minute on the screen is worth a second in reality. The video lasts an hour, but only one turn of the needle actually passes. This video installation offers a unique sensory experience, and encourages us to rethink our relationship with the body and time.
